InPrivate Browsing was described as a 'porn mode' in various news outlets like similar modes of privacy protection in Safari, Google Chrome and Firefox 3.5. Microsoft defended this functionality after Gregg Keizer of reported it as a feature like ‘phone home’.Ī new security mode called as InPrivate feature first came with IE8 and two main features were there: InPrivate Filtering and InPrivate Browsing. Possibly, a little bit of personally-identifiable information like the user’s IP address and information regarding browser is also sent to Microsoft as a part of the HTTPS protocol. This feature Suggested Sites is not turned on by default and also disabled when the user is visiting SSL-secured IP address, intranet or IDN address sites or browsing with InPrivate enabled. This connection saves the information and a uniquely generated identifier, per-session for a short period of time.

Microsoft has described this feature as a tool which can suggest websites in which browser sends information over a secure connection to Microsoft. Microsoft set priorities like ease of use, security, Ajax support, Cascading Style Sheets and improvements in RSS for developing Internet Explorer 8. About 20-22% is IE8’s estimated global market share. This browser was launched as the successor to IE 7 released back in 2006 and is the default browser for Windows Server 2008 and Windows 7 R2 operating systems excluding Europe. There are two builds available – 32-bit and 64-bit. Internet Explorer 8 was released on 19 March, 2009 for Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008, Windows Vista, and Windows 7.
